So a close cousin of mine who has been going through some very difficult times experienced a triumph yesterday, which gives me some hope that maybe there IS some justice in this world! My cousin is now a single dad of a 3 mth old (maybe 4? can't quite remember) baby boy. His ex-girlfriend is a drug addict (prescrip pills, methodone, before that it was heroin) and quite literally a danger to the baby. She failed to get clean during her pregnancy and as a result, Baby Boy was born addicted to methodone. He spent several weeks in the hospital after his birth going through excruciating withdrawls and for a while, no one was quite sure what the long term effects would be. Slowly but surely, he began to heal though and now seems pretty healthy. However, his ex still could not kick her habit. She was SO drugged up on a zillion kinds of pills that she would literally pass out mid-sentence. While Baby Boy recovered in the hospital, she was finally prohibited from being alone with him after a scary incident of her passing out while holding him (thankfully a nurse and my Aunt were there to catch him!!). So it has been a HUGE battle between my cousin and his ex over who would get the baby. CPS became involved and after a terrifying incident of her passing out in the car with the baby (a woman driving by thought she was dead and called 911), she was not allowed to be alone with Baby Boy AT ALL. A few weeks later, she overdosed on pills and nearly died. The docs revived her at the hopsital after she stopped breathing and she spent about a week recovering. It was during that time that he went to court, requesting emergency temporary custody and a temp restraining order against her. Shockingly, even with previous CPS involvment and police reports, the judge DENIED him! Pretty devestating for him but still, he pressed on.
Yesterday, at a meeting between my cousin, his ex and CPS, he was rewarded with custody of Baby Boy and they even offered to help him pay for full time day care while he works. His ex only gets supervised visitation for now. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now he gets to adjust to life as a single dad but I'd say he's pretty happy that his son is finally safe!!
As for me...well I've been battling some yucky depression, thanks to this awful "morning-sickness-that-really-lasts-all-day". It's been rough getting out of bed some days and I have to remind myself, it's JUST hormonal, it WILL pass...even that doesn't help sometimes. :( I told Demetrius that I am going to go buy myself a massage in hopes that it will help alleviate some of this!! LOL
Other news...my good friend, Melissa (aka Mistro) just had her baby girl, Kadence Marie, on Mon. via C section (baby was breech!) and Kadence weighed in at 7 lbs. 12 oz and 19 inches long. Can't wait to meet that little one!! ;)

Yay for our cousin! I didn't know some of that was going on. I'm glad he came out victorious! I'm sure he'll be a good dad!
